Our Ōpāwaho

We walked to the Ōpāwaho (Heathcote River) to learn about our local environment. The Ōpāwaho winds around our school, even though we can't see it from our school grounds.

We had to look closely and create a detailed sketch of a plant or animal.

We thought about the health of the river and how it's changed over time.

We imagined what the river might have looked like before Christchurch was built.

We will continue learning about our local environment this term. Our big focus is kaitiakitanga, guardianship of the environment. We will also be learning the St Mark's School Story and sharing this story with our school community.
