The Wonderful Wizard of Oz

Consider this trailer and these book covers. What does each one suggest about the story?
- What expectations might they give a reader who's never encountered this book before?
- Which cover do you think is best and why?

  1. We think the trailer explains the story the most. You can tell what characters are bad or good.
The 1st cover isn't very self explanatory. A person who hadn't read it before might think the lion is the wizard.
The 2nd cover is sort of self explanatory because it shows the main characters silhouette walking along the yellow brick road.
The 3rd cover is most self explanatory because it shows all the main characters both bad and good.

  2. Book 3 because it shows what looks like the main characters in a funny exciting way of pulling the reader into the book and making them read it as it looks interesting and real cool - Brie

  3. The first one doesn't tell you much from the cover, all it tells you is that it's the wonderful wizard of oz and there is a lion and also it tells you the author and the person that did the pictures, neither is there much colour from William and Max He.

  4. Book #1- We think that due to the fact that the only image on the front is the lion, readers may not understand what the book is about. This book looks like the lion is the main character, and that may confuse readers about the purpose of the book.

Book #2- We think that the 2nd book has improved from the original because it now shows all the main characters (Dorothy, The Tin Man, The Scarecrow, The Lion and Toto) except for the Good and Bad witches.
It has also included the Yellow Brick Road, but the readers may not understand what it is, they may just think it is a yellow path.

Book #3- The third book is a bit more complicated, and it may appeal to younger readers as the images are animated. Again it shows many of the main characters, yet again missing out both the witches. We think that may be because they are afraid of giving away too much about the story.

We think the best cover is- Book #2 because it shows many of the main characters, and it gives you an idea about the story. Yet it is still quite mysterious.
